When high-speed pumps use double-end or tandem seals, many of them are not modular – why is that? What is the difference between non-containerized and containerized?
Due to the very high rotational speed of high-speed pumps, it is desirable for the shaft to be as short as possible; as a result, the space available for sealing is generally limited, making it easier to use non-integrated seals. The greatest advantage of modular seals is that the sealing manufacturer adjusts the compression amount and other parameters accordingly; the entire seal functions as a single unit, and once it is installed on the pump and the bolts are tightened, it’s ready to use ; Non-containerized sealing requires individual pieces to be installed from above.
All high-speed pump seals these days are non-integrated
1. Those that consist only of a moving ring and a stationary ring are non-packaged; generally, those sold in small paper boxes are non-packaged as well; 2. The rotating and stationary rings are installed on the shaft sleeve and fixed within the seal housing; during installation, it is sufficient to slide the shaft sleeve into place and tighten the screws that secure the seal housing to the pump casing – it is a modular seal. Easier to install, but more expensive
