It has been a year since I joined the refining and chemical processing industry, and what strikes me the most is that problems with the control systems occur quite frequently in the two catalytic units. For example, a few days ago, the compressor experienced communication issues during a thunderstorm; the 505 speed regulator and anti-surge valves could not be controlled from inside the room, so adjustments had to be made at the engineer’s station. The instruments showed no faults, and even the manufacturer (GE’s PLC) was unable to resolve the issue. During attempts to fix it – seemingly related to restoring normal operation or activating safety mechanisms – the auxiliary oil pump started up accidentally. Therefore, I sincerely seek advice from fellow professionals: are there any books on control system theory that you can recommend? I want to understand the underlying principles of control systems. Currently, the control system for our main fan is provided by Conixson, while the compressor is from Elliot Company; the entire system was installed back then. However, a major maintenance campaign is planned for October, during which the system will be upgraded. I would also like to know what aspects I should pay attention to during this upgrade process. Although I will eventually take charge of equipment-related tasks, my understanding of equipment is still quite limited. So I hope everyone can recommend some materials for me. I didn’t study these topics in college; concepts such as PLCs and interlock reset are completely unfamiliar to me. Thank you
There are many books on control theory and control engineering; you can look for them online.
Since GE PLCs tend to malfunction, it’s advisable to consult the hardware manual, network manual, and programming manual for the same model of GE PLC, as well as to look at other people’s technical discussions on the official website forums. The principles and approaches of automatic control are similar; the only differences lie in the hardware and network structure.
It seems that the interference resistance of your system is poor; I wonder if the necessary anti-interference measures weren’t taken!
