Our company is preparing to introduce a new product that uses ethanol. We would like to ask: what amount is required for a facility to be classified as Category B? What is the safe distance from surrounding substations and canteens, what measures need to be taken, and is it necessary to have a separate warehouse for storing ethanol?
If the ethanol usage at a particular location exceeds 5% of the total amount used in the facility, it should be classified as a plant of Category A. The safety distance between Class A workshops and power distribution rooms is 25 meters, while the safety distance from canteens (considered as sources of open flames) is 30 meters. Moreover, the office area must be separated from the production area
If it’s not over 5%, then there’s no problem
If it is not more than 5%, it shall be classified according to the other highest fire category; if the highest category other than ethanol is Category C, then it shall be classified as Category C. A safety distance of 10 meters is required between Category C areas and power distribution rooms as well as kitchens
Got it, thanks. Excluding ethanol, it falls under Category C; for example, in a space of 1300㎡, as long as the area occupied by ethanol is no more than 65㎡, it can be classified as Category C, right?
