What are the main responsibilities and tasks of a mechanical engineer in a chemical plant? Please share your opinions :) I had an interview today, and the interviewer asked me this question. My answers were: 1. To ensure the proper operation of the equipment and keep track of any defects; 2. To carry out technical modifications to the equipment that often has problems, in order to reduce maintenance costs; 3. To develop maintenance plans. But it seems they weren’t very satisfied with my answers :'(:'(
Develop and implement maintenance measures and plans to ensure the proper operation of machinery; Organization of documentation for mechanical equipment, including accompanying documents, daily inspection and maintenance records, operation logs, etc ; Upgrade the problematic machinery to ensure its operational efficiency ; Formulation and implementation of management regulations for mechanical equipment ; Properly select, install, and commission the new equipment ; …………
It depends on the department you are applying to, as different departments have varying requirements regarding responsibilities. For example, if you are applying to be an engineer in the equipment management department, then you should at least be able to do the following: 1. Have a thorough understanding of methods for dealing with everyday equipment failures; 2. Establishment of equipment ledger ; 3. Compilation of equipment maintenance technical specifications ; 4. Preparation of equipment maintenance plans ; 5. A series of tasks including research on the selection for equipment upgrading and renovation, preparation of technical documents for equipment procurement, inspection of equipment upon arrival at the factory, and installation and commissioning of the equipment ; 6. Preparation of standardized operation instructions for equipment ; 7. Preparation of the annual major maintenance plan for equipment and the maintenance task sheet ; 8. Management of equipment and spare parts, determination and revision of equipment inventory quotas, etc ; 9. Thoroughly understand the regulatory frameworks for regular equipment inspections ; 10. Prepare equipment training materials ; 11. Management of fixed assets for equipment ; 12. Preparation of emergency repair plan for equipment ; 13. A solid foundation in equipment fault diagnosis ; 14. Proficient in the operation and structural principles of various devices ; Wait. . . .
I will also mention a few points: 1. Maintenance plan; 2. Equipment renewal and upgrading plan, including selection, installation, and acceptance; 3. Spare parts plan; 4. Unit maintenance procedures and special care plans; 5. Lubrication, inspections, condition monitoring, etc.; 6. Diagnosis of failure causes; 7. Analysis of accident causes

Whether at the plant level or the workshop level, you haven’t even mentioned the basic equipment management systems. Not to mention things like lubrication, monitoring of operating parameters for large machinery, spare parts management, special equipment management, and matters related to inspection and maintenance; let alone the detailed archival records... and so on
