There was a racetrack with only five racing tracks, 25 horses to determine the top three, and no timers or other auxiliary equipment. How many races were needed at minimum? There’s a reward for getting it right; it would be great if you could explain the answer as well
6 times. 5 horses per batch; the ones that win the first prize advance to the finals, and again, there are 5 horses. 1 time. Just those three; to make the others outperform them, they’re not given any fodder or water for 3 days and are kept confined. . .
That’s not right. What if one group’s last place runner is faster than the other group’s first place runner?
5 minus 3 equals 2; that whole group has been eliminated, so what’s there to worry about? Where does so much fairness come from? The race between Tian Ji and his opponents?
One match for every 5 horses; the top two in the first round compete in two matches, and the top two again in another match, for a total of 8 matches
7 times, first divide into 5 groups and play 5 matches. Take the first match of each group once to determine the top three, A, B, and C, with A definitely being first place. The top 2 and 3 from Group A drop down, the second-place contestant from Group B joins them, and Group B and C compete again to determine the 2nd and 3rd places.
