On September 2, the Lurgi gasifier at the Yima Gasification Plant of Henan Energy and Chemical Industry carried out China’s first 10-day trial firing test using 5,500 tons of Ningxia Baofeng coke. The test data show that the operation parameters of coke gasification are stable and the performance is good; the trial operation data and performance results are **better than expected, thus completing the testing and demonstration of using a new type of coal (coke) in Lurgi gasifiers. The No. 2 and No. 3 Ruqi gasifiers at this plant adopted the coal crushing under pressure gasification process using coke as raw material for the first time. In the ignition trial operation of the gasifier, with no test firing records or data available for reference, the plant’s test firing team managed to switch the gasifier from air ignition to oxygen operation through repeated experiments and the resolution of equipment issues, thereby producing qualified crude gas. During the trial operation, the loads of Reactors 2 and 3 were maintained at 7,000–7,500 Nm3/h. Among them, the oxygen load of Unit 3 #Luchi gasifier was increased to the highest level of 9700 Nm3/h, successfully completing the ultra-high load test. Pilot tests showed that, under the same load, the effective gas production rate is on par with that of using other blended coals per unit time. In addition to producing qualified raw material for coal-to-natural gas production (raw gas), the ash and slag discharged from the gasification furnace can also be used for environmentally friendly applications such as brick manufacturing, thereby helping the company reduce costs and increase efficiency. Experts say that the successful trial operation of the Lurgi gasifier this time has provided valuable experience and data for the use of low-quality coke as raw material in combined cycle gasification technology with Lurgi gasifiers at this plant. Is the proportion of coke in the raw materials 100%? It would be good if there were a particle size distribution for the raw materials.

It is all coke; the particle size suitable for Ruhr-type furnaces is generally 5–50 mm.
Chemical coke can hardly be considered high-quality coke.
According to Luzzi’s gasification principle, coke gas production should be no problem. A moving bed only requires particle size and heat intensity. So both high-quality coke and low-quality coke will do.
