In the newly built atmospheric tower of our company, gas rising caps that prevent mass transfer have been installed on the extractor trays and return trays in the second section. The tray between them was changed from a single overflow tray to a double overflow tray. Why?
The mid-section reflux returns to the tower in a supercooled state, so the mass transfer efficiency of these trays decreases, with heat transfer being the dominant process. As a result, the liquid load on these trays will **increase**, so single overflow has been changed to double overflow.
