Can National V diesel vehicles use National III diesel? In terms of specifications, the difference between National V, National IV, National III diesel fuels lies solely in their sulfur content. So, can vehicles meeting National Standard 5 use National Standard 3 diesel? Will long-term use have any effects?
Push on your own. . . . . .
I don’t think it’s possible; it will cause corrosion and damage to the engine’s fuel injection system and exhaust treatment system. It is said that advanced diesel vehicles (imported diesel SUVs), once they are filled with illegal diesel on the Sichuan-Tibet Highway, immediately stop working.

The emission standards for National V diesel vehicles are quite high; in other words, the catalysts in a vehicle’s exhaust treatment system are more sensitive to sulfur, meaning they can easily become poisoned by sulfur. National Standard 3 diesel requires a sulfur content of 350 ppm, National Standard 4 requires 50 ppm, and National Standard 5 requires 10 ppm. So it’s inevitable that vehicles meeting National Standard 5 emission requirements will have problems when using National Standard 3 diesel – it’s like using diamond-yellow labeled fuel in such vehicles, haha. I mean, there has been no Tier 3 diesel since 2015, and wasn’t the Tier 5 emission standard introduced in 2018? I forgot to mention it – the operation is fine, but there are issues with emissions.
