The methanol-to-gasoline process has many economic problems inherent in it: it incurs losses 70% of the time, breaks even 20% of the time, and generates only modest profits 10% of the time. Also, when looking for a design institute to develop solutions for converting methanol into gasoline, do not turn to Saiding Institute – they do not take responsibility for their work, have poor service quality, and the design standards are low as well.
It seems there should be a profit. I visited a company recently; it seems that 2.5 tons of methanol are needed to produce one ton of gasoline, which would be 97-octane fuel. The current price of methanol is over 1,600 yuan per ton. Oil No. 97 costs about 6.0 yuan per liter. If we only consider the cost of raw materials and ignore everything else, there should still be a profit. The problem is that I don’t understand this technology either; I can only speak based on prices, as I haven’t taken other costs into account.
