The largest vent valves specified in the standards are of DN250 size. Nowadays, storage tanks have capacities of 10,000 or even 20,000 cubic meters – can vent valves of DN250 still meet the ventilation requirements of such tanks?
SY/T 0511.1-2010 Petroleum Storage Tanks – Accessories, Part 1: Breather Valves has been released long ago. The maximum diameter specified in the standards was likely set based on the technology and manufacturing capabilities of that time. As for the expansion of the tank volume, it is possible to consider adding a few more breather valves.
At the current stage, for larger containers, in addition to installing multiple large-diameter safety vent valves, their weight also needs to be taken into consideration. Storage tanks are now required to be equipped not only with vent valves but also with corresponding emergency release valves in order to meet safety and environmental protection requirements
