I graduated from a second-tier university with a degree in chemical engineering and technology. I have been working at a company that specializes in oil, petrochemical, and chemical processing equipment for over two years now. The company’s main products include patented process systems, as well as the design and manufacture of conventional chemical processing equipment (such as pressure vessels). The company has a limited number of employees, so individuals are responsible for a variety of tasks. I was responsible for guiding the installation and commissioning of 3 major process systems in the company, almost always working alone. Through my diligent efforts (I enjoy delving into things in depth), I gained a thorough understanding of the knowledge related to process systems, including equipment, pipelines, instruments, valves, and more. I feel very tired from living like this these days; I’m familiar with various fields, but I’m not proficient in any of them. I spend most of my time every day learning*, and it always seems like there’s a lot I don’t understand. I would appreciate the guidance of the senior members at HaiChuan. 1: Which field should I pursue? II: How should I allocate emphasis to different majors (to what extent should knowledge in each major be developed?) I really want to work at a large company as an engineer specializing in one specific area. These days, one has to know and learn everything related to every field, and I’m a perfectionist who tends to get stuck on details… It’s exhausting! ! ! ! 》

I believe that one should have a certain level of knowledge in this area, though it shouldn’t be too extensive. The extent of this knowledge depends on your scope of work; of course, the more and deeper the knowledge, the better, if possible. Don’t you feel that people’s energy is limited? I’m also facing this challenge. Don’t forget that you are a person trained in engineering; you should focus on engineering principles, and you need to understand all aspects related to engineering within your area of work. Equipment comes in second place, instrumentation and automation in third, and electrical systems in fourth. The ranking and allocation ratio depend on the work requirements. It seems like your work is quite varied; some of it isn’t related to manufacturing processes at all, but rather falls within the area of equipment and instrumentation.
