For a project currently under development, the storage period for a certain raw material is only 4 days. Experts argue that this period is too short and recommend that it be set in accordance with relevant standards. This is my first time designing the capacity of storage tanks in a tank farm, and I would like to know **which standards should be followed for determining the storage period of materials in such a tank farm?**

Thank you. Are there any other specifications? Currently, our storage tanks are designed for a storage period of 4 days, which does not meet the requirement specified in 3007 that raw materials should be stored for 5–7 days during road transport.
I don’t think so; the only regulation that mentions a specific number of days seems to be one related to finding something. In fact, I believe that the determination of tank capacity is related to the mode of transportation and the production conditions of the enterprise; it shouldn’t be a fixed value – it’s merely a recommendation, and in many cases the required number of turnover days isn’t even achieved.

Here, some of the raw materials we have are only stored for two days, while others are designed to be stored for 15 days! The storage capacity for our two units is determined based on the mode of transportation and the level of danger associated with the raw materials!
The requirements regarding the storage period of raw materials are generally determined by taking into account factors such as upstream production levels, transportation methods, downstream demand, the coordination between upstream and downstream processes, the physical properties of the materials, and economic considerations (including the costs associated with starting up or shutting down downstream operations). The requirements in the standards regarding the storage period of raw materials are also the result of taking various factors into consideration, and the degree word used is “preferably”; therefore, it is optional to comply with them or not. The 4-day storage period is a bit short, unless additional guarantees can be provided for the mode of transportation.
A turnover time of 4 days is indeed a bit low; it’s usually 7–10 days.
