I would like to ask whether the AO process, which uses MBR membranes, does not involve the use of activated sludge and instead employs powdered microorganisms that possess the degradation capabilities of activated sludge, is effective in treating domestic wastewater. Previously, the microbial strains were used in conjunction with fillers; the bio-contact oxidation process with biofilm formation could help achieve the required standards, but it’s not clear whether the same is true for MBR as well.
The performance of MBR membranes is better than that of contact oxidation, and MBR membranes operate more stably with fewer fluctuations.
For domestic wastewater, the A2O process is generally recommended, as it takes into account both nitrogen and phosphorus removal; it is a mature process with stable operation.
Of course, it is possible to meet the standards; the greatest advantage of MBR is its ability to save land. By adding an MBR unit while keeping the land area unchanged, it is of course possible to meet the standards.
