Hello everyone, it’s a carbon steel butterfly valve in use; the valve disc is severely rusted, and the inner walls of the valve body are also rusted. 1: I would like to use this butterfly valve now. Is that possible? I’m worried that the sealing surface isn’t as good as it used to be. 2: How to deal with rust? The price of just the valve is 12,000. DN500
The valve discs are severely rusted, so they should be replaced. I’ve also not seen any methods for rust removal of such valves; for butterfly valves, the usual approach is to replace the valve disc, valve stem, and rubber seals. If the valve body is severely rusted, it should be replaced.
If it were with me, it would have been replaced and sold long ago! Even if it’s not corroded, just if it’s damaged, it’s simply discarded
It indicates that there is an issue with the valve material selection; please choose a material that is better resistant to corrosion by the pipeline medium.
It should be updated when its service life reaches the designed limit; when replacing the valve, the corrosion resistance of the valve body material should be taken into consideration.
12,000? ? ? A DN500 butterfly valve can be that expensive? It must be imported
Rust removal may also require grinding; however, it depends on the type of valve. If that doesn’t work, it’s better to replace it, making sure to choose the right material
After derusting, pressurize the valve to check its sealing performance; if there is significant leakage, replace it with a new one, making sure to choose the right material
Butter, a wire brush – use the wire brush to scrub the rusty areas; then use a cloth to remove the rust. Finally, apply butter to those rusty areas
