In newly built atmospheric and vacuum distillation units today, is a booster still needed for the vacuum extraction system at the top of the vacuum tower? Is dry distillation or wet distillation being used at present?
I also want to ask how to ensure airtightness in the pressure-reduction section; there are normally requirements regarding static pressure drop. As for the negative pressure in this area, how is it determined to be within acceptable limits?
There are both dry and wet types; the dry type is equipped with a turbocharger.
Boosters are typically used for vacuum extraction at reduced pressure in fuel oil-type atmospheric and vacuum distillation units; boosters are employed for vacuum extraction at the top of the tower, with no stripping steam provided at the bottom. By utilizing high vacuum levels, the yield of the products obtained from the reduced-pressure side streams is increased, thereby providing raw materials for catalytic processes – this is what is known as dry distillation. Stirred-tank distillation uses stripping steam at the bottom of the tower; the top of the tower is typically under double vacuum without a booster pump, and the side streams are generally used for lubricant base oils.
