DCS configuration: edge-triggered?

What do rising-edge trigger and falling-edge trigger in DCS configuration mean, and how are they generally used?
For example, if DCS issues a command to stop the pump, it might be a pulse triggered by a falling edge, while the corresponding command to start the pump is a pulse triggered by a rising edge.
Is this the same as what we usually refer to as trigger by 0 and trigger by 1? Generally, the start and stop signals for pumps are 3-second pulse signals. Is this the same as the rising edge and falling edge? Do the several situations mentioned above mean the same thing?

Edge-triggering means it is triggered when the signal changes from 0 to 1. The opposite is true for the falling edge.
Rising edge: In digital circuits, the moment when the digital level changes from 0 to 1 is called a rising edge, while the moment it changes from 1 to 0 is called a falling edge
