Installation of the level gauge in the liquid-liquid extraction tower

Several types of liquid-liquid extraction towers have been seen, but the placement of level gauges varies among them. For example, in aromatic extraction towers, a level gauge is installed at the top of the tower while another is placed at the bottom; in the raffinate water washing tower, the level gauge is located at the bottom, whereas in the liquefied gas water washing tower it is placed at the top. The liquefied gas desulfurization extraction tower is equipped with level gauges both at the top and at the bottom. The arrangement of these gauges in these towers seems a bit confusing, and it’s unclear what principles guide such arrangements. I hope some expert can give me some guidance. Thank you!
I’ll offer my opinion first – there are currently two options. One is to install a level gauge on the side where high quality requirements apply to the product; in the case of the oil-water washing tower, it’s the oil side that requires higher product quality, yet the level gauge is installed on the water side at the bottom. Another consideration is to place it at the outlet of the dispersed phase, but neither of these approaches can be applied to all of the towers mentioned above
