Haichuan Thanksgiving Season: My Personal New Year’s Thoughts 【Foreign Language Zone 001】

In 2009, while searching for information online, I learned that a friend back in China had found one of my technical presentations there to be extremely enlightening and inspiring; this friend then wrote a dedicated article on Haichuan to summarize the content of that presentation and share it with others. So I must thank this unknown friend for letting me know that there is a chemical technology forum called Haichuan in China; as a result, I also registered to become a member of Haichuan. I came to the HaiChuan Chemical Engineering English Forum on purpose: my specialty is material corrosion and protection. In China, this field falls under the chemical engineering department, while abroad it is usually part of the materials science or mechanical engineering departments. Therefore, my expertise lies in materials science/physical chemistry/electrochemistry/corrosion prevention, not in English. But when I arrived at Haichuan in 2009, I found that the section on chemical engineering English was more lively and interesting than the section on chemical corrosion prevention. There were also many friends from different fields, and the range of topics discussed was broader. I felt that by helping others in the section on chemical engineering English, I could learn many different things as well, so I decided to visit this place regularly. Wishing everyone a happy New Year, good health, and progress in the new year! I also have a few suggestions for the friends of the HaiChuan Chemicals English section: 1) I hope the old friends who used to appear in this section will come back and check it out often ； 2) I hope that when new friends encounter problems, they will try to find answers on their own first, rather than simply posting the questions and expecting others to do all the work for them. 3) I hope the moderators will also participate more in the discussions, rather than simply saying “participate actively” and adding something like 2-8 points of wealth
I’ve even forgotten how I first heard about Kaichuan; P
The lack of activity lately is what has caused this phenomenon. 1) I hope the old friends who appeared in the column before will come back and check it out often ； It’s a matter of personal preference; if one is busy with work or has other things to attend to, it’s easy to forget the places that once impressed one. 2) I hope that when new friends encounter problems, they will try to find answers on their own first, rather than simply posting the questions and expecting others to do all the work for them. I agree on this; it’s about communication – you shouldn’t be afraid of making mistakes, but you should avoid not speaking at all and waiting for others to solve things for you. 3) It is hoped that moderators will also participate more actively in discussions, rather than simply saying something like “participate actively” and adding points such as 2-8. Moderators play a role in encouraging other users to post and manage threads, and they use their personal time, whether it’s time off from work or personal time; they should be encouraged for this. With some forms of communication, after a few days, enthusiasm tends to fade away; moreover, with some of them, the messages simply disappear without a trace.
