Selection of valve sealing surfaces

For a certain project, there are petrochemical lubricants with high viscosity, as well as utility media such as steam; if all valve sealing surfaces are made of hard materials, is that too much?
I’ve never seen soft-sealed surfaces used for oils and steam.
Are lubricant products necessary? I had initially wondered if there were any special requirements for lubricant products, but then I saw that hard seals are also used for compressed air and low-pressure steam – it’s unbelievable. I wanted to discuss with the client the possibility of replacing the Y-type sealing surface with an H-type one, but I didn’t know how to put it across.
You need to first understand the owner’s situation. If the owner is experienced, it’s very likely that they have learned from past experiences; in such cases, it’s better to choose higher-quality options for the critical parts or take their advice into account. If the owner is a wealthy but reckless person, just leave them be. And if the owner is a cautious novice, try to persuade them
For these media, if the pressure is not high, H is more than sufficient; using cemented carbide in such cases is a waste.
There is no need for deception; we need to prioritize safety and cost-efficiency to convince the owners.
