Simulation software for starting and stopping large-scale units

Are there any simulation software for starting up and shutting down large-scale units, such as compressors? I’m looking for recommendations. If not, how to write one, what software to use, and what skills are required (book recommendations).
It can be written in Labview; familiarity with compressor models is required.
