I would appreciate some expert advice regarding the design of a storage tank for chloromethane; is Q345R a suitable material choice? What is the typical allowance for corrosion, and what are the process pipe ends? Is the loading/unloading port on the top or the bottom? The more information you provide, the better. Thank you
If there is no water, Q345R can be used.
What about the corrosion allowance? Is it considered a flammable medium?
The corrosion allowance for chloromethane is set at 2 mm; it is explosive and highly hazardous.
If the moisture content is within acceptable limits, Q345R can be used. The required corrosion allowance is usually 3 MM. Process piping includes connections for liquid inlet, reflux, gas phase equilibrium, gas phase condensation, level measurement, pressure gauges, safety valves, pressure relief vents, liquid discharge, sewage drainage, and manholes. Loading and unloading ports are generally located at the top. When designing, attention should be paid to the storage capacity; levels and pressures must be integrated into the SIS system. A total volume of 20 T in the production area and 50 T in the storage area constitutes a major hazard
The design of the chloromethane storage tank should be determined based on actual operating conditions; the boiling point of chloromethane is -23.7°C. If stored at low temperatures, it should be designed in accordance with low-temperature storage tank standards, using materials suitable for such conditions such as Q345DR ; If stored at room temperature, the design pressure must be determined based on the saturated vapor pressure corresponding to the operating temperature, in order to carry out the design of the pressure vessel.
If low temperature and low stress conditions are met, it might also be possible to use it
