I am conducting experiments on the removal of sulfates from magnesium chloride. The barium chloride method is used; the idea is to first add an excess of barium chloride to remove sulfates, and then add an excess of calcium carbonate to remove the barium chloride. The specific procedure is as follows: Dissolve magnesium chloride in a beaker, heat it to 90–110°C, add an excess of 30% barium chloride solution, and stir while boiling for 1 hour. Add an excess of 50% sodium carbonate solution and stir while boiling for 1 hour. Sample requirement: Sulfates

I only know that when producing sodium bromide in the past, barium chloride was used to remove sulfate ions; first, the sulfate ions were determined, and an equal amount of barium chloride was added based on that amount, after which the mixture was clarified and filtered. Barium was not removed with calcium carbonate.
