Our company has an alkylation unit, and recently there has been a problem of excessive sulfur content in the circulating coolant; the sulfur level sometimes exceeds 100 ppm (while the sulfur content in the raw materials is no more than 10 ppm). Please help analyze the reasons for this issue.
Is this the sulfuric acid method? It may be caused by incomplete separation of the product from the sulfate ester.

Is the sulfur content in the refrigerant too high? What about the sulfur content of the product?
It’s possible that in the DuPont process there is only one flash tank, and the reaction products and the coolant have mixed together; the reaction products have passed through the baffle
The excess sulfur in the refrigerant is likely not closely related to the sulfur content in the raw materials; it may be due to the decomposition of sulfuric acid, which produces sulfur dioxide
It is recommended that you drain the acid from the bottom of the refrigerant buffer tank; there are reserved openings at the bottom of the pipe, and one of these openings does not have a vortex device. After checking the equipment diagram, open it at a low setting to allow the acid to be drained.
