Inside the biogas digester, biogas bacteria can be poisoned when they come into contact with harmful substances; in mild cases, their reproduction stops, and in severe cases, they die, resulting in a halt in gas production by the digester. Therefore, during routine maintenance, it is important not to introduce the following harmful substances into the digester: various pesticides, especially organic fungicides, antibiotics, and insecticides； Heavy metal compounds, industrial wastewater containing toxic substances, salts ； Recently disinfected poultry and livestock manure ； Stems and leaves of crops treated with pesticides ； Various plants that can be used to make organic pesticides, such as peach leaves and neem leaves ； Sprouts of spicy plants such as scallions, garlic, chili peppers, leeks, radishes, etc ； Detergent and water used for washing clothes must not enter the biogas digester. If poisoning occurs, half of the fermented material in the digester should be removed and replaced with half new material; after allowing gas production to continue for 2–3 days, normal gas production will resume.
