Today I suddenly noticed that there are new hydrogen compressors and circulating hydrogen compressors in my workshop; both are reciprocating compressors. The new hydrogen compressor has a lower power rating, while the circulating hydrogen compressor has a higher power rating. Why is the current consumption higher for the new hydrogen compressor, whereas it’s lower for the circulating hydrogen compressor? The power of the new hydrogen compressor is 90 KW, with a current of over 200 amps; whereas the power of the circulating hydrogen compressor is 135 KW, with a current of just over 100 amps. Why is that? What factors determine the current consumption of a compressor?
The voltages are different. The new hydrogen engine uses low pressure, while the circulation engine uses high pressure; therefore, the output current is different.
Electrical power is the product of voltage and current; a lower power rating for the new hydrogen compressor does not necessarily mean that the current is low, as it is also related to the voltage. The two do not have a fixed identical value, so they are not comparable.
It is related to the compressor’s load rate
The voltage used is different; the cycle hydrogen compressor may operate at a high voltage of 10,000 volts

The new hydrogen compressor is experiencing overcurrent – did it not shut down due to a fault? Is it still working properly?
