We are a secondary vocational school; teachers without any corporate experience really struggle with this. It’s fortunate that there is this forum! Teach how to start and stop centrifugal pumps. During operation inspections, in addition to recording flow rate and pressure, we also use a sound detector, a thermometer, and a vibration meter (separate ones – are these what are commonly referred to as the three essential tools?) ), I would like to ask what the standard practice is in companies (there’s a lot of information available online, but it’s better to hear from those with experience): 1. When using a sound detection device for recording, since no specific values are available, should one record “normal/abnormal”, or not record anything at all – it’s sufficient for the experienced person to know in their mind. 2. Thermometer – just record the temperature. What is generally considered the normal range for ordinary centrifugal pumps in enterprises? 3. Vibration meter – I see options for displacement, velocity, and acceleration. Can I just record one of them? If there is anything else to add, please advise, masters! Thank you! Inspections are divided into workshop inspections and specialized inspections by fitters and electricians. I have no experience with large-scale units; the records kept in ordinary pump stations include flow rate (which is usually recorded by the operator on site), pump outlet pressure, and oil level. When the bearing temperature and the vibration of the pumps are within normal ranges, our workshop does not record them; however, in case of any abnormalities, the temperature and vibration levels are recorded in the shift handover logs.
The listening stick is mainly used to detect whether there are any noises during operation; it’s not necessary to record this, although it can be done – after all, everyone’s hearing and judgment abilities vary. When taking temperature readings, it is necessary to record mainly the bearing temperature and the temperatures at both ends of the motor; when measuring vibration, it is primarily the displacement that needs to be recorded

The thermometer is used to measure the temperature of the centrifugal pump bearings; a normal temperature is ≤50°C for rolling bearings and ≤45°C for sliding bearings ; The motor temperature is ≯75°C, which is normal ; 3. Vibration meter – I see options for displacement, velocity, and acceleration. Can I just record one of them? For vibration measurement, displacement is generally used; for bearing vibration, it should not exceed 0.10 millimeters at 1500 revolutions per minute, and 0.08 millimeters at 3000 revolutions per minute.
