My workshop is equipped with a sulfur recovery unit; the wastewater well system of this unit has an exhaust pipeline at one of the wastewater wells, which leads directly to the atmosphere; But this line still has a water seal inside the well. I can’t figure out the reason. Are there any relevant regulatory requirements? Seeking advice

It is obviously unacceptable to release waste gases from septic tanks directly into the atmosphere.
Similar specifications seem to have been seen before, but our factory does not use them in practice; we have only seen them in other factories. As far as I understand, sewer covers originally had two ventilation holes, but those were sealed off in most cases due to odor problems. That’s what happens in our factory as well; moreover, activated carbon is added to some of the sewer covers that still have ventilation holes. But once gas gets in, there must be an outlet; that’s why this tube exists. With this tube in place, safe discharge at relatively orderly and designated points can be controlled. But it’s really unknown whether there is a water seal inside; I never thought of such a thing before. Now I think that if one does exist, it should be a separately installed water seal with a fixed pressure, rather than simply being inserted to a certain depth in the sewer shaft.
