How should rupture discs be installed in pipelines to reduce the impact force during explosion?
0 Installation and maintenance of blast discs 10.0.1 Installation of blast discs 10.0.1.1 Blast discs should be kept clean during installation, and checked for any damage, rust, bubbles, or impurities. The nameplate faces the discharge side. 10.0.1.2 The population duct of the blast disc should be short and straight, with a diameter not smaller than the nominal diameter of the blast disc. 10.0.1.3 The outlet duct of the shrapnel shall lead to a safe location or a closed recovery system. The outlet pipeline should have sufficient support. The recoil force and vibration during blasting must be taken into account. The diameter of the outlet pipe must be such that the flow velocity inside it does not exceed 0.5 Mach. 10.0.1.4 When the rupture disc is used alone as a pressure relief device, a shut-off valve shall be installed on the inlet pipe of the rupture disc. The isolation valve should be sealed with a lead seal when in the open position (C.S.O.). When pressure relief discs of 10.0–1.5 are used in series before the safety valve, a pressure gauge and a vent valve should be installed between the pressure relief discs and the safety valve. Pressure gauges and vent valves can be installed on the gripper; this should be specified when placing the order.
6 Installation 6.1 Location of installation and piping arrangement for fragmentation safety devices 6.1.1 Location within the system 6.1.1.1 Fragmentation safety devices should be installed on the main body of pressure-bearing equipment or on associated pipelines, and they should be easily accessible for installation, inspection, and replacement. 6.1.1.2 The shrapnel safety device should be installed near the pressure source of the pressure-bearing equipment. If used in a gaseous medium, it should be installed in the gas space (including the gas phase above the liquid) or on a pipeline connected to that space; if used in a liquid medium, it should be installed below the normal liquid level. 6.1.1.3 When pressure is applied to the pressure-bearing equipment from the outside and can be reliably controlled, the shrapnel protection device should be installed directly on the pressure-bearing equipment or on the inlet pipeline. 6.1.1.4 A space can be considered a pressurized confined space, and a rupture disc safety device can be installed in such a hazardous space (pressurized equipment), if one of the following conditions applies: a) the pressurized equipment connected to the pressure source does not generate pressure on its own, and the design pressure of this device reaches the pressure of the pressure source; b) multiple interconnected pressurized devices have the same design pressure or only slight differences in pressure, and they are connected by pipes with sufficient diameter, without any valves in between. 6.1.1.5 For pressure-bearing equipment such as heat exchangers, if there is a risk that the high-temperature medium could leak into the low-temperature medium and generate vapor, a rupture disc safety device should be installed on the side of the low-temperature area
