What are the things to keep in mind when restarting a hydrogenation reactor in a hydrogen production plant after it has been taken out of service? Is there a sequence to opening the entrances?
Slowly open the inlet valve; once the reactor pressure is stable, then open the outlet valve. It seems that the cross-line valve should be closed afterward
Is it high pressure? If there is a dedicated pressurization pipeline, first use it to equalize the pressure in the reactor with that of the hydrogen compressor. Then open the outlet isolation valve; an adjustment valve should be present at the outlet to control the gas flow rate. Next, open the inlet isolation valve, fully open it, and then gradually adjust the valve – do not open it too quickly, as this can cause a large pressure difference in the reactor, which may blow over the catalyst bed. Additionally, if the gas phase circulation is established too rapidly, it can raise the liquid level in the reactor, thereby affecting the stable operation of the hydrogen compressor and potentially leading to a chain reaction that results in shutdown
There is no control valve at the outlet; only inlet and outlet isolation valves are present. Why open the outlet valve first? Can’t we open the inlet valve slowly first?
I’m not sure exactly what your manufacturing process entails, but opening the inlet before the outlet poses a certain risk. When hydrogen enters the reactor through the inlet, the liquid level in the reactor rises. If the valves do not function properly, a large amount of gas may enter suddenly at a certain point, causing the reactor’s liquid level to soar. If the outlet is then opened, it can lead to even greater pressure differences, further increasing the liquid level. The liquid may then flow from the gas outlet line into the inlet of the circulation compressor, which can have serious consequences – in mild cases, the compressor may stop working, while in severe cases, liquid may enter the compressor cylinder and cause damage to the equipment. The cost of hydrogen compressors and the processes required for repairing them are certainly problematic. By opening the outlet first, such risks can be avoided; as long as the liquid level is well controlled, problems are unlikely to occur.
What would be the effect of opening the inlet valve first if everything enters the reactor in the gas phase?
The raw materials for hydrogen production using the zh process are dry gas and natural gas; there is no naphtha. How does the hydrogenation reactor come into play in a hydrogen production facility?
When starting up the reactor, slowly open the inlet to pressurize it, and then open it fully. Next, open the outlet valve, and finally close the cross-line valve. The reactors for hydrogen production are all fixed-bed types with high inlet and low outlet. It should be put into use in accordance with the direction of the medium to prevent gas backflow.
Gas-phase hydrogenation has not been carried out yet, haha. One thing to keep in mind is that before introducing gas-phase circulation, it’s necessary to slowly increase the reactor pressure until it matches the pressure at the outlet of the hydrogen compressor
