Today, a company that deals with information security for DCS control systems came to discuss matters related to this area. Does anyone have knowledge in this field? Are there any relevant mandatory standards and requirements for this area? I think this aspect is quite innovative. Has anyone tried working on this before?
I’ve never heard of it. In my view, DCS information security means that if your DCS is connected to the Internet, then great care must be taken. Generally, keep the operation station locked to prevent unauthorized USB drives from being inserted, perform regular backups, and that’s about it.
What they emphasize is the security risks associated with data exchange between DCS and enterprise MES, which does seem reasonable; however, for a relatively isolated DCS, the impact should not be very significant.
I heard that modern PLCs now come with firewalls.
Some PLCs come equipped with safety modules; it seems that many manufacturers such as Siemens and ABB offer PLCs with such features
