Issues related to load during wastewater treatment

Today, while talking with a client, I mentioned that the water inflow load is high, which makes it unsuitable for direct biochemical treatment. As far as I remember, the load on biochemical systems is generally not high; does this mean that when the load is high, the treatment efficiency decreases? Is it still the high load, resulting in insufficient reaction and incomplete processing? Could everyone explain what \"load\" means in simpler terms? Thanks
For BOD/COD, a value below 0.5 is suitable for biochemical treatment. Biochemical treatment primarily reduces the COD level by utilizing the anabolism of microorganisms. If the ratio is too high, microorganisms won’t be able to handle anything without a suitable environment. If one can’t afford to maintain the sludge, that is, the microorganisms, then there’s no talk of treating water quality.
For the detection of desulfurization slurry concentration in power plants, is this detection done online or in a laboratory?
