Personally, it seems to be a process of adding modifiers; there’s nothing mysterious about it. The key lies in the substances added and their proportions, as well as in figuring out how to ensure that these modifiers blend perfectly with the base asphalt. A series of experiments are needed to achieve this

Introduction to the SBS-modified asphalt process: A certain amount of 70# or 90# asphalt is pumped into the reaction vessel; a colloid mill is started to create circulation within the vessel. Approximately 5% of the asphalt volume in terms of SBS (thermoplastic styrene-butadiene rubber) is gradually added, and the temperature is raised to 150–160°C. The mixture is kept at this temperature for about 2 hours, until the SBS is evenly dispersed throughout the asphalt. After that, the mixture is transferred to a holding tank, stabilizers are added, and the mixture is stirred while kept at the same temperature for about 4 hours before samples can be taken for analysis of the three key parameters.
