Hello everyone. Our plant produces methanol from 100,000 tons of coke oven gas, and recently there have been frequent instances of blockages in the flow channels of the syngas compressors. This has happened twice – once in the first stage and once in the second stage, with a two-month interval between each occurrence. Currently, there are again signs of such blockages; upon opening the compressors for inspection, it was found that the blockages in the flow channels consist of black precipitates such as elemental iron or iron oxide. When these precipitates react with hydrochloric acid, gas is produced; it’s not certain whether this gas is hydrogen. Element analysis showed that the majority of the components are iron, with small amounts of sulfur, potassium, calcium, manganese, etc. The filters for the fresh gas at the inlet were checked and found to be intact, with no signs of damage or black deposits. I would like to ask the experts and colleagues here: has anyone encountered similar problems? Where do these precipitates come from? Is it due to pipe corrosion?
