The bearing jacket of the shielded pump is cooled by cooling water; over time, dirt and scale accumulate inside the jacket. Is it necessary to flush it periodically using the return water from the cooling circulation system?
If conditions permit, it’s of course a good idea to clean it up; whether to do so or not depends mainly on the cooling effect
We currently have only one shielded pump, and for a long time, there has been a tendency for the local temperature in the cooling water jacket to be on the high side. In such situations, we first tap (hit or vibrate) it; if that doesn’t work, we disconnect one end of the water supply and drainage to allow water to flow through at a higher volume for cleaning. We don’t really care whether the water flows in forward or backward direction, and there’s no need for regular inspections – we just check it whenever we happen to be there, and fix it when it seems necessary.
Compressed air can also be used for blowing; it is quite effective, as the high pressure and fast flow rate of compressed air make it easy to remove silt.
