The lubricating oil in a reciprocating compressor we have installed has turned black. Some people say it’s due to carbon buildup; the exhaust temperature of the compressor is only a little over 100 degrees. Could such a temperature cause carbon buildup?
The exhaust temperature and the lubricating oil temperature are two different temperatures; the blackening of the lubricating oil may be caused by high temperatures leading to slow oxidation, as well as by the failure to change the oil over time.
Analysis should be conducted regularly, and the lubricant should be replaced based on the results
