Acid feed rate to the alkylation reactor

In the alkylation unit, can the manual valve from the settler to the reactor be used to adjust the acid feed rate to the reactor? During normal operation, is it necessary to keep this valve fully open? It seems that just 2–3 turns of the valve are enough for the acid to flow entirely into the reactor. Can’t we not turn them all on?

In fact, the opening degrees vary among different manufacturers – some are set at three to five notches, some at seven notches, and others are fully open. I have experienced all of these situations, and none of them had an impact on product quality; what’s important is to control the acid-to-hydrocarbon ratio as well as the amount of acid used in circulation.
