Dear experts at HaiChuan: The company I work for has recently started manufacturing some simple pressure vessels, using solid-core and flux-cored welding wires; there are no electrodes used. The company’s management set up two warehouses for storing welding materials – a primary warehouse and a secondary one – and also purchased a dryer. Unfortunately, it turned out to be too small to hold the welding wires, so it’s just sitting in a corner. Some people in the company say that the welding wires need to be dried, and that a larger dryer is necessary, while others claim that welding wires don’t require drying. I’ve looked up some information; Section 4.2 of the \"Code for Welding of Pressure Vessels\" states that 1. Before using welding materials, the wire must have any oil or rust removed from it ; The shielding gas should be kept dry. 2. Except for vacuum packaging, electrodes and fluxes should be redried in accordance with the specifications outlined in the product instructions; after drying, they can be placed in an insulated box at a temperature of 100 degrees to 150 degrees. Can it be assumed that 1. the welding wire does not need to be dried, as long as it is free from dirt? 2. Do welding rods and fluxes not need to be dried as long as they are vacuum-packed? All should follow the instructions on the welding material’s outer packaging. . . . Generally, the welding wire is not dried. . Those in vacuum packaging are not dried either.
Welding wire does not need to be dried, nor do vacuum-packed electrodes and fluxes require drying.
