We developed an exhaust gas treatment system for a pharmaceutical company. The air ducts in the factory are made of PP, and flammable and explosive organic exhaust gases flow through these ducts; the corrosivity of these gases is not high. During a safety and environmental audit conducted by the pharmaceutical company, questions were raised regarding what to do in case static electricity accumulates inside the ducts. We decided to insert copper wires inside the ducts, but the design agency did not approve this idea. We also consulted professors present, but they could not come up with any good solutions. I read relevant posts on forums, which mainly suggested wrapping conductive wires around the outside of the pipes – but how can static electricity generated by the flow of exhaust gases inside the pipes be dissipated? I wonder what good insights everyone has! Looking forward to your advice! Are there any reference standards?

I heard of an anti-static PP pipe; you might want to check whether it can be used.

To discharge static electricity inside PP pipes, copper mesh wires with a cross-sectional area of at least 4 square millimeters must be used; these wires are placed inside the pipes, and by connecting their outer ends to the equipment’s grounding system, the static electricity can be discharged. Since a single copper wire is prone to corrosion and breaking, and is also difficult to inspect, it is better to use meshed copper wires. It is also necessary to regularly test the electrical conductivity of the copper wires inside the pipes.
