Headspace gas chromatography is used to detect residual monomers and solvents in rubber, with the requirement that these residues be below 15 ppm. At such residue levels, are the GC results accurate?
If a FID detector is used in combination with a capillary column, and the compound being analyzed are simple hydrocarbons, the accuracy is fairly good; however, the injection volume should not be too small, nor should the split ratio be too high.
