The requirements regarding undercuts in GB150 are as follows: the depth of undercuts shall not exceed 0.5 mm; there shall be no continuous undercuts, and the length of such continuous undercuts shall not be greater than 100 mm. The undercuts on both sides shall not account for more than 10% of the welding length. In my opinion, these rules apply only to the welds on the equipment itself, while temporary supports are needed during production, especially for large-diameter pipes. Some pipe manufacturers, when producing in large quantities, rarely use shims for supporting carbon steel pipes – instead, the supports are welded directly to the inner wall, sometimes not even by spot welding but by welding around the entire perimeter. Given the skill level of the workers, undercuts are quite common. So my understanding is that, for this type of support, it doesn’t meet the requirements in the first place. Second, even if this type of support is assumed, such burrs do not meet the aforementioned inspection requirements; rather, burrs should be completely prohibited. Because after the on-site installation company removes the supports, they will basically only perform grinding; it’s not possible for them to weld anything again. I wonder if there are any specific standards regarding the welds of such temporary supports?

Well, but if shipments like pipe fittings require temporary support, and the people who weld on-site are not from the manufacturing factory, then strictly speaking, does the undercut at the location of those temporary supports need to be addressed?
