According to a report on September 9, 2016, from http://www.anchunjishu.com/index.asp, the construction of the 400,000-ton coal-to-ethylene glycol production facility owned by Yangmei Group and located in Pingding County, Yangquan City, Shanxi Province (with an initial capacity of 200,000 tons) is nearing completion. The project has entered its final phase. It is reported that the civil engineering work for Phase 1 has been fully completed, and equipment commissioning has commenced in full. After more than two years of effort by all the construction workers, the project’s commencement is now on a countdown. The 2×200,000 tons/year ethylene glycol project of Pingding Chemical, Yangquan Coal Industry Group, is being constructed in two phases, with each phase having a production capacity of 200,000 tons of ethylene glycol and associated by-products per year. The cost estimate for one of these phases, with a capacity of 200,000 tons per year, is 3.624 billion yuan. Phase 1 of the project commenced construction on September 20, 2014, and was mechanically completed in June 2016. The product is scheduled to be released by the end of 2016. The project utilizes coal water slurry water-cooled shift furnace gasification technology, sulfur-resistant shift reaction, low-temperature methanol washing for purification, CO cold box separation, PSA for hydrogen extraction, and carbonylation-coupling hydrogenation processes to produce ethylene glycol. For gasification, Tsinghua furnaces are used, with a gasification pressure of 4.5 MPa. There are 2 such furnaces, with a diameter of φ2800 mm; each furnace can handle 800 t of coal per day. The effective gas production is 70,000 Nm3/h. The second-generation Tsinghua furnace gasification technology (a Tsinghua furnace with water-cooled walls for coal slurry) is employed. PSA-CO and PSA-H2 are provided by Sichuan Tianyi Technology Company. The synthesis of ethylene glycol utilizes the syngas-to-ethylene glycol technology developed by Shanghai Pujing Chemical. The project was overall designed by Hualu Engineering Technology Co., Ltd. (formerly the 6th Research Institute of Chemical Engineering).
