I. Correct usage of the safety rope 1. Fix one end of the escape rope or escape ladder to a sturdy object, attach the other end to a safety belt or wrap it around the waist, fasten the safety hook, and throw the rescue rope down through the window. 2. Put on protective gloves, hold the life rope with both hands, hook the instep of the left foot around the window sill, push off the outer wall with the left foot; once stable, pull the left foot out of the window. 3. Bend the legs slightly, push hard against the wall with both feet, keep the arms straight with relaxed hands, look downward, and slide down using the life rope. 4. When nearly at ground level, bend the right arm forward, tighten the rope, bend the legs, and let the toes touch the ground first. II. What are the structural features of safety ropes? Safety ropes are required to have a diameter of more than 16 mm; they must not exhibit any unevenness in diameter, twisting, strength, or kinking along their entire length. Additionally, they should be easy to process and handle, and cost-effective. Commonly used structures include: 1. Three-strand twisted rope (three-strand nine-ply rope): It is composed of three twisted strands twisted in the opposite direction to that of the rope, and this is a method of twisting the rope without changing its twist rate. 2. Four-strand twisted rope (single rope with four strands): It is formed by twisting four strand fibers, with a core fiber inserted among them, into a rope without any deformation. The outer periphery of this rope is nearly circular, similar to that of a three-strand twisted rope, and no core rope is inserted when making it thin. 3. Multi-strand rope: Three twisted strands are used as the constituent strands, which are then twisted together to form a rope; however, this method is rarely used these days. 4. Six-strand twisted rope: Six strands are combined with a core wire of the same diameter and twisted together to form a structure similar to that of a steel wire rope. However, when fibers are used entirely, they deform during use, so this manufacturing method is rarely employed. 5. Woven rope: Made by interweaving strands of S-twist and Z-twist in the same number at an angle to the length direction of the rope. Compared to twisted ropes, it features no kinking and its ends are less likely to come undone. III. Requirements for the installation of horizontal safety ropes for holding on to 1. The horizontal safety ropes for holding on to should preferably be made of 6×37+1 steel wire ropes with plastic coatings on their fiber cores; their technical properties must meet the requirements specified in GB/T 1102 \"Round-wire steel ropes\", and they must come with a product manufacturing license as well as a certificate of conformity upon leaving the factory. 2. The ends of the steel wire rope shall be fixed to a sturdy and reliable frame, with it being wound around the frame at least 2 times; padding shall be used where it comes into contact with the corners of the frame. 3. For the fixed connection at the end of the steel wire rope, rope clamps (also known as wire rope grips) should be used. The clamp plates should be placed at one end of the longer portion of the wire rope, and the number of clamps should be no less than 3. The distance between the clamps should be at least 6 times the diameter of the wire rope. The safety grip should be installed about 500 millimeters away from the last clamp; the end of the wire rope should be allowed to form a safe bend before it is secured with the main clamp. 4. The fixing height of the steel wire rope should be 1.1–1.4 m; a fixing support point should be provided every 2 m; the sag of the steel wire rope after fixation should be 10–30 mm. 5. The hand-held horizontal safety rope is intended solely as a guide rope for workers performing work at heights in special situations; it must not be used as a hanging point for safety belts. It is necessary to regularly check whether the fixing ends or points are loose, and whether the wire rope is damaged, corroded, or has broken strands. IV. Precautions for using safety ropes 1. It is strictly prohibited to use hemp ropes as safety ropes. 2. If the length of the safety rope exceeds three meters, a buffer must be installed to ensure the safety of workers working at heights. 3. Two people cannot use the same safety rope at the same time. 4. When performing high-risk tasks, to enhance the safety of workers at height while they are in motion, in addition to fastening their safety belts, they should also attach themselves to safety ropes.
