A nitrogen fertilizer company built a new coal-head pressurized gasification ammonia synthesis plant. During commissioning, cracks were detected in the methanol pipeline elbows used for low-temperature methanol washing; the material of these elbows was S304. The stainless steel elbows with cracks exhibited strong magnetic attraction when tested with a magnet, indicating that they had high magnetic properties. It is normal for 304 material to become magnetic; elbows are prone to developing magnetism during the extrusion process, mainly due to the formation of martensite
