In the building design fire protection codes, as well as in the examples given later, sulfur trioxide is not mentioned among strong oxidizing agents. Although fuming sulfuric acid is classified as a strong oxidizer of Category B in terms of fire hazard, it seems that the oxidizing power of sulfur trioxide is greater than that of fuming sulfuric acid. How should it be classified then?
After all, aren’t the properties of sulfur trioxide and fuming sulfuric acid quite similar, with only the concentration of free sulfur trioxide being higher?
Is there any evidence? For enterprises that produce sulfuric acid from sulfur, is the sulfur trioxide unit classified as Category A? Is there anyone who works in this field to answer?
The \"Hazardous Chemicals Classification Information Table\" for 2015 does not specify the oxidation category for sulfur trioxide and fuming sulfuric acid. For hydrogen peroxide solutions, (1) a concentration of ≥60% classifies them as oxidizing liquids, Category 1; (2) a concentration of 20% ≤ concentration < 60% classifies them as oxidizing liquids, Category 2; (3) a concentration of 8% ≤ concentration < 20% classifies them as oxidizing liquids, Category 3. This suggests that the oxidation property of sulfur trioxide and fuming sulfuric acid is not very high. Classifying it as Category B is almost no problem.
