Jiangsu’s 900,000-ton methanol-to-olefins plant to come online by year’s end Date: 2016-11-25 China Coal Resources Network Font size Latest news: The 3.6 million-ton per year alcohol-based integrated production project operated by Jiangsu Sierbang Petrochemical has seen the completion of most of its facilities, with several of them already in the testing phase; full commercial operation is expected by the end of the year. On November 12, the relevant procedures such as the confirmation form for \"completion in nine months and delivery in five\" were finalized for the core unit of Phase 1 of this project – the 900,000-ton methanol-to-olefins (MTO) plant – marking the high-standard completion of the MTO plant at Jiangsu Sierbang Petrochemical Engineering. It is reported that the first phase of Jiangsu Sierbang Petrochemical Co., Ltd.’s 3.6 million tons per year alcohol-based polyproduct project, located in the Petrochemical Industrial Park of Xuwei New Area in Lianyungang, was invested and constructed by Shenghong Petrochemical (Lianyungang) Co., Ltd. The project uses purchased methanol as raw material to build units for the production of olefins as well as downstream processing facilities, with the aim of producing high-end fine chemical ingredients, organic synthesis intermediates, synthetic fiber monomers, and functional polymer materials.
Procurement started in November; delivery will be in February next year
In the past two years, for coal-to-olefins projects that use purchased methanol as a raw material, operations have been profitable; whereas those that produce methanol from coal on their own have mostly suffered losses!
Why are you still so smart? Isn’t self-production cheaper?
Theoretically, building a methanol plant oneself is cheaper, but that is not the case in practice. If one takes into account the costs of capital and management, plus the particularly problematic issue of operational capacity, then building a methanol plant on one’s own results in huge losses. Domestic methanol production is severely in excess; methanol from many projects is sold at a loss. So why invest in one’s own production facilities? Buying directly is simple and convenient. That’s how Ningbo Fude makes its profits
What’s said seems reasonable; ordinary people can’t see it, so that’s why there’s a loss
