How should a coking hot oil pump be preheated after maintenance? Should the preheating valve be opened first, or should the inlet valve be opened directly?
First, conduct a leak test using steam; if there are no issues, then release the steam. Next, open the inlet valve to fill the pump (do not open the inlet too wide – it is somewhat dangerous to fill a hot oil pump by opening it fully). Once the pump is almost filled, slightly increase the temperature of the preheating element (do not increase it suddenly to prevent the pump from running out of fluid). For larger hot oil pumps, it is advisable to wait for some time after filling the pump before turning on the preheating element. These are the steps used in previous operations at the chemical plant; they may differ from the standard methods and are provided for reference only
