At the beginning of this year, our factory experienced sudden fluctuations in flow rates; it was later found that the valves were fully open, which prevented the flow rate from increasing. Eventually, the valves were left in their fully open position. Calibrating the instrument several times had no effect. During this parking maintenance, the flow meter flange was removed, and it was found that insulation material and other debris were blocking the balance flow meter
There are many types of flow meters used to measure water flow, and those based on differential pressure are among the most commonly used today. Differential pressure type meters belong to the classic category of flow meters, which are well-known to everyone. But why doesn’t everyone pay attention to some of the defects related to differential pressure, especially in processes that operate on a continuous basis? In such cases, production usually cannot be stopped, and it’s really difficult to know what to do when problems arise. Although the procurement cost of differential pressure type flowmeters is low, their operating cost is relatively high among all types of flowmeters. As the original poster mentioned, using an electromagnetic flow meter or an ultrasonic flow meter are both excellent options; they require no maintenance and have almost zero operational costs.
Electromagnetic flowmeters cannot be used for desalinated water!
If it is demineralized water, electromagnetic methods cannot be used; ultrasonic or vortex flow meter techniques are good alternatives.
