After the recent tower switch in our company’s resin towers, the levels of calcium and magnesium suddenly became extremely high. Before analysis and sampling, the level in those towers was only 10 ppb, but it rose to 45 ppb in the subsequent towers; this situation occurred in all three towers. Usually, after regeneration, the levels of calcium and magnesium are very low. Upon inspection, there are no abnormalities in the regeneration process; the parameters of the brine are also within normal ranges, and the height of the resin layer is normal as well. Could everyone help analyze what other possible causes there might be?
Try cleaning the sampling port carefully; this situation is usually due to a sampling issue.
It’s possible that there is internal leakage in the main channel valve, or the regeneration is incomplete; also consider the points mentioned above – check each one one by one.
Saltwater flows from the front tower to the back tower; there is no reason for the front tower to be lower and the back tower higher. I hope the original poster can find out the reason soon.
A situation in which the front tower is at a lower level while the back tower is at a higher level can occur; this is mainly due to excessive levels of brine, or severe short-term excesses, prior to the regeneration of the second tower. As a result, the resin tower operates under overload conditions, and the resin does not fully convert to its sodium form after regeneration, leading to the precipitation of calcium and magnesium once it is introduced into the system
It cannot be said that such cases do not exist; rather, they are extremely rare.
First, rule out the possibility of internal leakage in the valves. Check whether the operating time of the resin tower is set appropriately based on the production load; in general, it is advisable to carry out a full regeneration of the resin tower every 3 to 6 months. I hope this can help you.
