According to reports from December 6, in response to the environmental pollution issues at Yunnan Pioneer Chemical Co., Ltd. exposed by the media, the Yunnan Provincial Environmental Protection Department announced on the same day that it had dispatched environmental protection officials from provincial, municipal, and county levels to the company, and had issued a decision ordering it to suspend operations for rectification. In response to this matter, the Yunnan Provincial Environmental Protection Department stated that on December 5th, it dispatched environmental protection agencies at the provincial, municipal, and county levels to Pioneer Company. There, they held discussions with the company’s management regarding the environmental violations committed by the company, and issued a decision ordering the suspension of operations for rectification. The company was required to implement this suspension order immediately, while ensuring safety, and to take further actions to address the issues and minimize any impact on the surrounding environment and local residents. The report also stated that since the pilot project for the clean utilization of lignite by Pioneer Company began trial production in 2014, it has been subject to complaints from the public due to the offensive odors generated during the production process. The environmental protection departments at the provincial, municipal, and county levels have, in accordance with relevant laws and regulations, ordered Pioneer Company to rectify its environmental violations on multiple occasions and imposed penalties on it. In May 2016, the Yunnan Provincial Environmental Protection Department ordered Xianfeng Chemical to suspend production for rectification. Pioneer Company addressed the prominent environmental issues that existed, and resumed operations on November 1, 2016, but for various reasons, the problem of odors and unpleasant smells has not been completely resolved. On November 22, 2016, the Yunnan Provincial Environmental Inspection Corps conducted an on-site inspection of the company and explicitly ordered it to suspend operations. Pioneer Chemical uses lignite as raw material to produce products such as methanol, gasoline, and liquefied natural gas; it is the largest investment attraction project in Xundian County, Yunnan Province. In March 2014, the 200,000 tons per year methanol-to-gasoline (MTG) industrial demonstration plant of Yunnan Pioneer Chemical Co., Ltd. successfully completed its trial operation with a single batch of feedstock and began operating at full capacity, becoming the fifth industrial demonstration project for \"coal-to-oil\" conversion in China to operate successfully. This facility is the largest methanol-to-gasoline conversion plant in operation in China, and it pioneered the \"one-step methanol-to-gasoline conversion\" technology.

Building on the achievements obtained from pilot and scale-up testing of a comprehensive set of advanced treatment methods—including efficient extraction and distillation of high-concentration wastewater from coal chemical processes, efficient air stripping, multi-functional catalytic oxidation, enhanced two-stage AO biological treatment, and efficient ozone-catalyzed oxidation with low energy consumption—they will conduct targeted research on improving the wastewater treatment processes at Pioneer Chemical. Targeted enhancement and comprehensive optimization strategies will be developed to eliminate unwanted odors during wastewater treatment at Pioneer Chemical, thereby achieving higher environmental protection standards. Xu Yanhua is a renowned expert in China in the fields of chemical pollution control and industrial water conservation and emission reduction. He is the director of the Laboratory for Water Conservation and Emission Reduction in the Clean Conversion of Coal in China’s petroleum and chemical industry, a specially appointed expert under the National \"Thousand Talents Program\", as well as the dean, professor, and doctoral supervisor at the School of Environment at Nanjing Tech University. The two organizations responsible for preparing the plans – the Institute of Process Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Nanjing University of Technology Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. – explained the process of plan preparation and responded to the questions raised by the expert group. The suggestions put forward by the experts provide strong guidance for further improving the rectification plan and achieving the desired results. From December 8 to 9, 2018, Yunnan Coal Chemical Industry Group Co., Ltd. formed a mechanical completion inspection team composed of professional technicians from its affiliated chemical enterprises, including Dawei Ammonia Production, Qumei Coking, and Jiehua Chemical Branches, to conduct the mechanical completion inspection for the environmental improvement project at Xianfeng Chemical. The acceptance team determined that the 10 environmental protection improvement projects carried out by Pioneer Chemical have been constructed in accordance with the design drawings, meeting the design standards, specifications, and contractual requirements. The design documents are complete, the quality records from the construction process are thorough, and the completion documents are largely complete ; The project supervision company issued a report assessing the quality of the work as satisfactory ; The 9 individual projects have been completed in accordance with the requirements of the design and construction contracts. On December 14, 2019, the first ignition of YM gasifier No. 2 at Yunnan Pioneer Chemical was successful. On the same day, the methanol synthesis unit successfully produced crude methanol. Located in Xundian County, Kunming City, Yunnan Province, this project uses low-quality lignite as raw material and adopts the \"one-step methanol-to-gasoline conversion process in a fixed-bed adiabatic reactor\" developed by the Shanxi Coal Chemistry Research Institute. It involves the construction of facilities for producing 500,000 tons per year of methanol, 160,000 tons per year of MTG, and 198.1 million cubic meters per year of LNG. The project was successfully tested in 2014; this operation was a test run with materials fed in to verify the effectiveness of the environmental improvement measures.
