Is the main cooling non-condensable gas discharged periodically, or is it kept on for discharge?
It is kept slightly open to prevent the accumulation of non-condensable gases, which could affect the heat exchange in the main cooler~~
The current practice seems to be that non-condensable gas emissions also need to be passed through the system’s condenser for treatment. So it can be considered to be turned on.
Currently, Hangyang’s approach is to discharge non-condensable gases into the waste nitrogen pipeline to recover the cooling capacity.
The non-condensable gas on our side also has several valves that control its flow rate, ensuring that the non-condensable gas from the main cooler is discharged at regular intervals into the waste nitrogen pipeline, thereby recovering some of the cooling capacity!
This is basically the case for large air separation units; for small ones, it’s enough to run them at a slightly open setting to allow gas leakage~~
How often is it scheduled, and why isn’t it held more frequently?
The common practice on site is to allow air to enter the nitrogen-containing gas pipeline; if the valve remains slightly open for an extended period, it can become difficult to close properly. In many air separation units, the gas is simply released directly, and in some cases the discharged gas contains both gas and liquid phases, which poses a safety risk if anyone happens to be passing by.
